I don't think (h)e did any of it...but it sounds like a way to get creationists to sway towards intelligent design.

Unless by (H)e you mean Biden, in which case it's probably true.

I slay me.

Moot point, the only thing that matters is the message, "Love thy neighbor, as thy self".

It sounds like a way for a bunch of academics to have a polite free for all at the next meeting of their learned and arcane society. I attend the Methodist Church, myself, and no one seems overly concerned with this stunning bit of non-news. Now ask us about our soup kitchen or the church thrift store, and you'll see the fangs come out - in a Godly manner, of course.

So if I'm David Carradine I should tie up my nieghbors and hang them in a closet?

Yawn.

Van Wolde is a great scholar, but she always seems intent on sensationalizing everything she does. This is not news, it's not even a new interpretation. The Bara has always been understood as a temporal clause, not as an independent primary clause - the problem isn't one of interpretation, it's a problem of translation, getting a good English construction that conveys the meaning.

The only thing she's really done here is demonstrate that the standard interpretation (of separating out) has parallels with other creation narratives from the Ancient Near East. That's important, but it's not a "new interpretation [that] is a complete shake up of the story of the Creation as we know it."

Agreed.

Being apathetically agnostic: I have no clue as to whether a creator exists, or what such a person's nature might be. And: I don't much care.

Can't see it makes much difference to the world anyway. We (you, me, him, her, they) seem bent on doing whatever it is 'we' want to, regardless of whether Jesus, Jehovah, or Allah is approving or not. And we get away with it, time after time…

HA!

Illustrating the great flaw in the golden rule...

Even the Catholic church is going gender-neutral these days. You're behind the times.

In answer to the question: I don't try to read the old testament literally. So I'll give you a definite maybe.
