Bush should take note on democracy

"Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. There was never a democracy yet that did not commit suicide." - John Adams

With Bush running around the globe extoling the virtues of democracy, lest he remember that we are a Republic? If the founding fathers wanted a democracy in America, they would have made the the House of Representatives the only part of Congress and have given the president less power. The Founding Fathers knew the track record of pure democracy. Pat Buchanan is right on this point: pure democracy, in most cases amounting to mob rule, is another form of tyranny. One of the underlying problems in all this democracy rhetoric is that a democratic government is meant to protect rights not grant them, according to the Constiution they are God given rights. This point has to be acknowledged due to the fact that, Bush's rant is a distortion. If this country was truly a democracy, the people would be able to vote for the Attorney General, and on policy issues. This is a Republic with democratic tennants. Does Bush really understand this point?, or does he just not care, due to the fact that most people don't realize the difference? Compared to a dictatorship, the US is a more democratic government, but obviously not a democracy. This is particular annoying when Bush hammers necessary allies about their internal political operations in public. If you think about it, the head of the FCC is appointed and has the power to censor programming. The Attorney General can push for a crack down of dissidents without direct public support, ie. this is no democracy.

Sure it is. The definition of democracy is what ever the United States is at that point in time. All the definitions in all the textbooks don't mean a shit to the(we) great unwashed.
The USA is democracy and vice versa.
God told W., to tell me, to tell you that.
