Desert Island Discs

This is something Tower Records did, I'm not sure if they still do.

The idea is, if you were stuck on a desert island, what 5 CDs would you want with you? (Hence, the name "Desert Island Discs".)

Double CDs are not allowed.

My Picks:

1. The Misfits - Famous Monsters

2. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Skynyrds Innyrds

3. The Sex Pistols - Live At Chelmsford Top Security Prison

4. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts - Fetish

5. Judas Priest - Rocka Rolla

What are your picks?

*Smiles* this is something that BBC radio 4 has been doing for many years. Of course.....on that show the "disc" refers to records ...Every week a famous person chooses several records and a book ( the bible is already included ) with which to be marooned. As they go through their record choices they talk about why they want that record and the whole thing usually ends up as a really good interview wrapped around a half dozen great pieces of music

I'd have to have "Sara" from the Hurricane album by Bob Dylan....when my ex and I were courting ( age 18) he made me a copy of that album ....what else? hmmm Leftism by leftfield, just picks my mood right up no matter how low I feel.......another one that does that is Porcelain by Moby.....Barber's Addagio for strings and David Bowies Space Oddysey i'd have because both give me shivers for different reasons....hmmm.....and Janice Jopelyn's Take a little piece of my heart.

Oops thats too many......ok cancel of Janis jopelyn I cna bring that to mind without the cd.....

1. The Beatles - Abbey Road
2. Nirvana - Nevermind
3. Crash Test Dummies - God Shuffled His Feet
4. Sarah McLachlan - Fumbling Towards Ecstasy
5. Disc 5, I'm ashamed to admit, is one of those Starbucks compilations they're always hawking, Ciao Amore

This is, I think, a good mix for me. Something for virtually every mood.

Can you break up a set? That would greatly impact my list...

True, lookout123. It was hard to decide, but I took into account that most of the songs on "Famous Monsters" relate to classic horror films, another one of my favorite things.

jinx, I see no reason why a set couldn't be broken up. I did consider that some people would be upset about not picking a double, but I looked at the lists that Tower publishes, and it seems to be all single disc recordings.

perth, compilations are allowed, and some of them are pretty good. I've got one from Hollywood Video that's songs from high school movies, like "Rock Around The Clock", "Schools Out", ect......

DanaC, the reason I picked CDs is that if it was records or tape, a lot of good stuff would not be included, like "The White Album", "Quadrophinia", "The Song Remains The Same", ect.....

But, even on CD, some stuff might not get in, like "The Wall", "Decade Of Aggression" (Slayer), "Double Live Assassins" (W.A.S.P.), "Live After Death" (Iron Maiden), ect......

Maybe my second thread will be "Double Island Discs" if this one goes well...........
