Eclipse Pics

Guess who let his inner science nerd run free tonight...

The quality isn't the best, I missed the start, there was condensation on the lens for the last few, but it was a bit of fun...

OH, cool!! I got up at 4:20 to watch it this morning! So, you all in Oz saw it, too? I thought northern and sourthern hemispheres couldn't see it at the same time? But, hey, I've no Inner Geek, so...

I heard it was coming, and usually go for this kind of stuff, but when I heard it was 4AM or some such nonsense I put it out of my mind.

Props to Brianna for getting out of bed for it that early.

Saw the last one, missed this one. The next one is in Feb Bri. Put it on your calendar. Though it might be a bit cold in Ohio for some outdoor photography.

Thanks for the shots Hagar!

Bump.

If you are in North America and are reading this right now (10PM Eastern time), go out and look at the moon. It's in total eclipse at the moment.

Here are two of the best from our front porch last night.

Pic 01 -- You can see Regulus at 12 o'clock relative to the moon, and Saturn at 8 o'clock.

Pic 02 -- A closer view of Luna.

Two more moonshots.

Pic 01 -- My best from the August 2007 eclipse. It was this red in real life then, and last night too. But I have been monkeying with the white balance and other settings on the camera, and the effects can be seen here.

Pic 02 -- This is a non-digital zoom from the same camera taken Sunday night. As you can see, the moon is waxing gibbous, unlike the previous post where it is full. What makes this shot interesting for me is that to get such a large clear image (with my pocket camera 6x optical zoom), I borrowed my friend's binoculars. I held the lens barrel of the camera firmly to the eyecup of the binoculars and then searched madly for the moon. Freeze. Snap (while still frozen). Voila! I think it turned out great! Certainly far far better than the majority of my other photos of the moon.

Didn't anyone else take pictures of the eclipse? Please post them if you have them.
