BACK IT UP!!!

Just a friendly reminder to back up your data today!

Out server crashed yesterday, and today I have been going through what files were (ha) recovered. They are all corrupted.

Fuck.

No, I didn't lose any important scientific data, I am religious about having that backed up. What I have lost are lots of little files that make my day to day life easier. PCR Recipes, lab schedules, letter templates for sending stuff out, etc.

The last time I backed that stuff up was 2 years ago. And I''ve done a lot of new stuff since then that apparently I didn't save anywhere else. I was planning on putting a copy of those fileshere on my new laptop, but hadn't gotten to it yet.

Damn it.

Where's that after school special thread bomb?

"The more you know...."

Jesus and Satan have an argument as to who is the better programmer. This goes on for a few hours until they come to an agreement to hold a contest, with God the Father as the judge.

They set themselves before their computers and begin. They are given the task, and began to type furiously, lines of code streaming up the screen for several hours straight. Seconds before the end of the competition, a bolt of lightning strikes, taking out the electricity. Moments later, the power is restored, and God announces that the contest is over.

He asks Satan to show what he has come up with. Satan indignantly protests, "I have nothing! I lost it all when the power went out." "Very well, then," says God, "let us see if Jesus fared any better."Jesus enters a command and the screen comes to life with a vivid display, the voices of an angelic choir pour forth from the speakers. Satan is astonished.

He stutters, "B-b-but how? I lost everything, yet Jesus' program is intact! How did he do it?"

God chuckles, "Satan, when are you going to learn ...Jesus saves!"

This is the really important part:

I'm sorry to hear about your data loss. Does Hallmark make cards that say that?

Just wanted to add that I thought this thread would be about something different entirely when I first opened it up.

*Please* tell us that none of your ass shots were lost? I mean, scientific data is easy to come by...

Heh, just got a chance to check back here. Great joke LJ, I will tell it at the next lab meeting. Gotten a few things retyped that were used frequently, and found a few others that I stashed on the other lab's server, so the repercussions haven't been too bad yet.

As for any pics of me, the cellar is the only place they are. Well, there and on whosever HDs are out *there*...
