Really, I am not sure what keeps HLJ away...I think he has been super busy with work, probably.

Hi y'all!

I'm back from the bush but I'm still a bit bushed. And I'm now starting at my new job so that is keeping me busy.

This is just a quick drop by to say hi, but there was one story from the festival I want to share. I do some volunteering, helping with the first aid, which is how I heard this story, but thank goodness I wasn't there.

A chap was brought in; he didn't speak English well, but it was clear that there was "something" in his ear. Moving. The docs held him down and had a look with the ear-thingy, yep, something there alright, and so the procedure is to flood the ear with oil. This should drown the critter and then it can be fished out with tweezers. (oil is better than water because many insects can survive under water for hours). Anyway, they poured in the oil ... and a 6 centimeter long centipede crawled out of the guys ear and ran across the doctor's hand!

At least it wasn't actually deadly.

Liking the new job so far? Has there been any time to go and pay homage to Twinkie and Binkie?

Well, today's 3 hour planning meeting resulted in another meeting this afternoon and another one on Wednesday, and then every Friday for the next 6 weeks, and every Wednesday for the rest of the year.

No kidding.

I have not yet seen any students at all.

Are you sure there are any students at all? This whole thing might be an elaborate ruse to some nefarious end.

Did the new job seem too good to be true?

Keep your eyes open!

Are the meetings on a remote island... with an underwater entrance to a lake in a hollow volcano? Do you have to wear a uniform with strange symbols? Does the leader have a white cat on his lap?

Would that possibly be because they're all on holiday? If you're particularly feeling the lack of student consultations, some actual students who go to your institution can be sent in your direction.

There is a mysterious tombstone on the "Siberian" side of the lake with strange symbols etched onto it....

I've been away because of back pain. It had gotten so bad I could barely sit at a computer. Had surgery about two weeks ago. Pain is slowly going away. I'll check in periodically. Hopefully soon I'll be able to use the computer as much as I want.
