Feb 10th, 2016: Ice Follies

The lucky people who live in the northern parts of New England, New York, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan, are blessed in winter.
They have so much fun people want to visit them to partake in the jocularity. Many of these location have festivals to welcome their
less fortunate brethren and let them sample the good life.
Lake Geneva Wisconsin, located on the shore of Lake Geneva,(how's that for a coincidence), hosts one of these festivals.
So many people come, parking gets rather scarce and traditionally people park on the frozen lake with no problem, although the town
posts signs that doing so is at your own risk. But that's just CYA the layers an Insurance agent demands. Nobody pays attention to them.

Remember when the first put Catalytic Converters on cars, all the warnings about the possibility of setting grass on fire if you parked
over it? I don't remember anything about melting ice so it couldn't be that. And since global warming is just a leftist conspiracy to rob
the hard working oligarchs of their retirement savings, it can't be that. Maybe the water level was a little low so the ice didn't have it
for support. But whatever the cause 15 cars got wet, 10 being total losses. But nobody got injured, so they've got that going for them.

I noticed there are cars still on the ice further from the ramp where they broke through, and don't seem to be in a hurry to move them.
So I guess it was too many cars in one spot, congregated around the ramp where traffic may have damaged/weakened the ice.
Or aliens with death rays zapped the ice for a giggle.

I dreamed about a car sinking into a lake last night.
I know why. It was a familiar image, used in Peter Struab's Ghost Story, and very memorably in Neil Gaiman's American Gods.

It's also a reasonably understandable dream-motif when you are cold and feel you're not coping (never been a strong swimmer)

But slightly spooky to see this post today nonetheless.

Park right here, they said.

It'll be fine, they said.
