So what WOULD your avatar be if this site allowed?

Maybe since we can't use them, it would be instructive to have a thread to post --imaginary-- avatars.

Here's the one I usually use, big deal:

Why would it be instructive?

because avatars give an additional glimpse into the interests and personalities of the owner

Rubbish, it's only what they want to make people think. What they post tells the real story.

True. Otherwise, what would the pic I would use in my avatar, the pic on my public profile, say about me? That I want to be a Pez dispenser? That I am a duck, of the daffy order?

The profile pic suffices.

sure, but you can't divorce what people want to present the world from their personality.

If you're not interested, don't post. If you want to argue about it, how about the why no avatars thread. I'm curious to see what people might choose.

I'm just glad HM decided not to show us the rest of the pic.

I haven't said too much about the avatar question. But I'm glad we don't use them. I used to participate in another forum (sports related) and the avatars and HTML sig lines are just visually exhausting - blinking, scrolling, animated things that just tax the eyes and brain.

I see where Cloud picked a somewhat serene and not a "look at Meeeee" avatar which is fine and all but since we don't have an approval committee anything goes. As I think back over the past few years of the Cellar, I have waking nightmares just thinking about what some people would have chosen.

On a related note, I drive around and can't help but notice what some people do with personalize license plates and wonder what on earth they were thinking.

There's a sig line that can be used to say something about yourself and I think quite a few people use it very effectively.

But that's just my opinion and differing ones count just as much.

it's okay that you guys don't want to use avatars--I just wanted a fun thread with a little self-expression, 'kay? Don't make it into more than it is.
