phone in the water!

My friend just called me and I was charging my phone in the kitchen and I dropped it into the sink which was soaking dinner dishes.

Now I can't do anything. I think she can hear me but I can't hear anything but a ringing noise. I can't be sure of that though. I told her to gmail me. And my texts back come out jibberish, though I can read hers.

I immediately used the hair dryer on it, to no avail.

Do you think it will dry out and correct itself? No biggie, just a big "you dumbass" to myself.

ps She did gmail me so apparently it isn't an emergency. Thank gawd.

Thanks! That is so funny because that is what she emailed me to do. And this is the girl I have been coaching non-stop on how to use the interwebs. I have a tupperware container of white rice so I'm trying it.

You rock, fargon.

lol, I hope so. If not, it's just a phone.

My mom would have said "Way to go, grace." And grinned. I've always been clutzy.

Not sure what kind you have, but if you can take the battery out, that's good too.

Normally rice (or other store solutions) would have fixed that in a few day. However once a key has been pressed, then water may have been drawn into sealed regions that may take weeks to dry out.

the only thing about the rice (maybe for next time) is to make sure it's free of fine powder. last time I needed a wet electronics rescue, I used the rice we use to weigh down the pastry when we blind bake pie crusts (so very, very dry because it's been baked many times, and no powder) and it worked a treat.

glatt: Can't take the battery out. It's like sealed in on the phone I have. Would negate the extra I pay for stupidity insurance.

tw: Of course I hit keys. I think the phone is the phucked.

monster: As far as I know, my white rice has no powdery substance. It was just rice I sealed up in some good tupperware.

I'm leaving it in the rice overnight. If it doesn't work tomorrow I'll get a replacement. I don't have a house phone, so it's pretty important I get this done.

But still, it's sort of funny. Darn phones and cars.

It took over 3 days for Spencers to come back to life. Don't plug a charger in if it's still wet. Id leave it in the rice for a week to be sure.

I have successfully done everything you are NOT supposed to do. I looked up some steps online and it tells you what to do IMMEDIATELY and what not to do ever. Heh. Of course I should've read the article BEFORE I dropped my phone in the water.

And I took it out of the rice this morning and plugged in the charger because I didn't know if it was working because the battery was way low. And I could get texts but not send them.

Today I was helping sis-in-law with the setup for the rehearsal dinner (it's gonna be beautiful!) and let it sit in the sun all day.

Now the text screen is just jibberish. And it says it's in 'safe mode' and that won't go away.

BUT my friend called as I was going home and I asked if she could hear me and she could! I could actually talk to her.

I'll give it more time but it's my only phone, not having a landline, so I worry that someone will need to get in touch with me. So waiting to see if it gets better and then waiting for a replacement to be sent to me is a bit of an aggravation. They don't like you at the Verizon stores if you take your phone in and you bought it through Verizonwireless online.

It's still kind of funny. Thanks for all the helpful comments and the funnies.

And monster, you were right about rice dust. I don't cook much, so...who knew?

it's nasty stuff.

If you were a(n organized) hoarder, of course, you'd have all the little desicant packs that ever came with things you bought and you could have sealed it in a tub with those.
