9/29/2003: Wrecked hotel ship
Tx to Torrere for passing this along. Around the same time we were all concerned about Isabel, a powerful typhoon hit South Korea. The full story talks about the tremendous amount of damage it did. This looks like a pretty small cruise ship; the caption says it's a cruise ship converted into a "floating hotel". Anyone who's been on a cruise has gotta enjoy this image. I guess they had enough advance warning of the 135-mph winds that were about to hit, so chances are nobody was on that ship. But still! Remember the image of a shipping container backup at the port of Busan? The full story up there says that, at that very same port, 11 container-lifting cranes, each weighing as much as 900 tons, were toppled, their green and red steel limbs twisted beyond recognition. Steel containers as long as 20 feet were scattered around the port. Ouch. |

"Hello, Mr. Jones? Yes this is the Floating Hotel, I'm calling about your reservations. It seems the room you reserved is a bit damp at the moment..."

18 inches of rain and 135 mph winds. I'm amazed the windows are intact.

yay!
I hadn't even noticed the paragraph about the damages in Busan when I read the original article. Wow!. I imagine that that would be a sight to be see!
I like the colors, and the walls reflecting on the floors. It looks beautifully askew. |
