I have to say it was one of the characteristics I disliked about dogs.

I knew a lab who ate the preparings of a pie - raw meat, raw pastry and all. The owner had only gone to pick the post up from the mat. Yuck.

Then I met Diz.
Used tissues, bread rolls, Wotsits.

Some animals are just hongry.
Merl's not that bad really. I think a bowl of ready prepared meatballs in sauce would be too much temptation for most meat eating beasties :P

Pilau did on occasion steal food. Proper doggy stuff to steal as well - sausages, meat pies etc. But not very often. Beardies aren't usually that foodie.

Carrot has an annoying habit at the moment of stealing slices of bread if I have put a couple on a plate and buttered them ready for a meal.. but he doesn't eat them. He just likes stealing them, and then stands there licking his lips and looking puzzled at the buttery taste.

Of course labradors are one of those breeds that tend towards a more than healthy appetite and indiscriminate tastes. Rhodesians are the same. Amble-scramble once ate through the bottom of a tupperware container to get at the scones inside :P

LOVE the saucy beard! Too funny!

Usually our dogs are not so brazen as to steal off our plates, though I once left a plate on the coffee table while I went to get a glass of water and returned to a perfect dog tongue shaped clean spot in my freshly poured ketchup.

I got a sequence of texts with pics from J the other day.
They have two dogs: a grizzled old veteran border collie called Lucky,
and Carrot's brother and litter mate, Merlot.
Dana, you probably didn't see it, but those two pics reminded me
of this political TV commercial that ran countless times during the latest US election...

More pics of Carrotchops...

At hydrotherapy today, he had to wear floats on his back legs whilst he was walking on the underwater treadmill, to increase resistance. I wish I'd been able to take a photo, but I'm usually leaning over the tank walls feeding him treats whilst this is all going on so...anyway, picture Carrot wearing teeny tiny, bright orange, toddler armbands on his back legs and you can imagine how funny he looked :p

He's always uber relaxed after a hydro session:

Uber relaxed:

Realises he's being watched:

Doesn't care none, because he's sooo chilled:

This is my little fella, Eddie, age about 8 weeks, having rescued him from almost certain death in my garden where he was being mobbed by Magpies. I dont know if the photo is going to work and if i have got this wrong I apologise.

Oh my goodness that is HUGE and I do apologise, havent done this before and clearly got it wrong. If anyone knows how to reduce it please do and thanks! Eddie is a wild animal so obviously not a pet, and he will go back to life in the wild in the Spring but had he not been brought in, he would have been killed by birds but, even had he escaped them he would have hibernated and died because he was a juvenile.

He is a lovely little lad who gets on ok with my two cats, who merely tolerate him. He is greatly loved!

I can't delete the original for you, but below is a cropped pic (ask the mods)

I am so jeal.
Just having a hodgepig in the garden excites me beyond belief.
When I lived in a sodden rental beside a canal we used to get them in the house (lax security on our part and slugs in the kitchen - retch.)

To have rescued one and be able to see it every day is just gorgeous.

Oh Sundae thank you, I just couldnt get to grips with it..

I also have them in my garden and feed them regularly so they don't need to eat the slugs, only because the slugs carry the dreaded lungworm which is death to hedgehogs. Once Eddie gets his freedom in the Spring I will also continue to put food out for him for the same reason, but also because he was so young when I brought him indoors I dont think he would survive now if he had to forage for himself. He is quite a character, and an athlete, his little legs are a blur when he runs around the house.

I'm not sure about his 'blue eyes' in the photo but suspect it is a similar reaction to being photographed as in 'red eye'. In reality his eyes appear dark but colourless and he's almost sightless, relying almost totally on very good hearing and scent.

You'll know that here in England (not sure about UK) his is a Protected Species and as such, and because he is a wild animal he can't be kept as a pet, so he does have to return to the big bad world out there. He is currently about half his ideal weight which is about a Kilo so once he reaches that I'll let him hibernate, until the spring. Isnt he gorgeous.
