Finally the Grammy are no longer brain dead

I never thought the Grammys would do but this time they did it: they did a political 'FU' to Bush by giving the Dixie Chicks 5 Grammys, including Song of the Year for the non-apologetic anthem 'Not Ready to Make Nice'. They used to be regarded as the most conservative of the US awards shows. About damn time they turned around.

And you never even suspected you were the one getting played by this move?

Winner, Pop Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocal: "My Humps," Black Eyed Peas

The industry is nearly dead.

Better 'My Humps' than 'London Bridge' winning solo, oh well.

speaking for the Grammies of the world, I can assure you, we are not brain dead. Unless we have menopausal brain fog. Or Alhzheimers. Or senile dementia. Or . . .

what's that?

eh?

speak up, sonny!

Oh.

Those Grammys.

. . . nevermind.

The Grammys are not a "they;" anyone who had anything to do with any musical album release in the year is eligible to vote. I got to vote once when I was 18. Like everything else, it's just a simple popularity contest among average people, not some room of industry elites who are thinking about the political ramifications of their moves.

I don't care...I LOVED what the one Dixie Chick said:

To quote the Simpsons: Ha Ha

Then apologized that half the people probably just shut off their TVs.

I laughed my head off.

Not unless half the audience is Clear Channel executives. When it comes to actual audience, they're doing just fine.

A lot of people who boycotted the DCs when they criticized Bush must have done an about face and bought their new CD. I wonder if they're going to re-buy the CDs that they burned back then.

I am not a fan of Country music in general (at least, not what they call Country music these days, which is really just pop music with horses and steel guitars), but the Chicks are awesomely talented writers, arrangers, players, singers and performers. They are totally the real deal, and deserving of the honors they got.

Was it political? Duh. That said, good for them. Who the hell made the rule that every redneck musician had to blindly follow the Conservative agenda?

Southerners used to be Democrats, back when Democrats were slightly less ignorant.

Less? Southerners used to be Democrats, back when Democrats were the pro-slavery, and later the anti-civil-rights party. The south went red when the Dixiecrats went Republican.

I seem to recall the South being Dem long after slavery had been abolished and lynchings being almost illegal.

Point well made, though. The South did sorta go with whoever they thought would keep the po' folk down, didn't they?

There can be a lot of inertia in political party, but the Democrats lost their southern stranglehold when they lost the Dixiecrats, and the Dixiecrats' issue was opposition to civil rights.

And it's not so much keeping po' folk down as wanting there to be someone even po' folk can look down on.

That would constitute proof that they are brain dead, voting for an act for reasons other than "they make good music." The Grammy Awards are just another in a long line of marketing tools.

This gives me yet another reason not to watch.
