5/19/2004: Iraqi police graduate

Thanks to xoxoxoBruce for passing along this one along. It's presented without bias. The grimacing guy is a British police instructor, and the guy showing his affection is one of about 950 newly minted Iraqi police graduates who has just graduated from the makeshift police academy.

scary

There is something very eeire about the calm expression on the Iraqi's face in contrast to the look of discomfort on the british instructors face.

I suggest we have a caption contest for this one. Pretend Undertoad hadn't explained the picture. Here's my entry:

I suspect it's an overhand knot, not a pretzel. Boy Scouts use a square knot. I guess British military just aren't up to that level yet.

I'll be worried when I see someone with a bowline insignia.

Yes, and American Boy Scouts love to wear those knot decorations and there are so many to choose from. Prior to WWII, American Scout leaders wore decortations much like military ribbons, but with returning soldiers becoming volunteers it was decided that it could get too confusing.
