Errrr... yeah. I assume the long cut and paste was supposed to be a spoof of some sort? I didn't bother reading through it all. Like Kitsune, I found the replies to be quite enlightening, however. Thanks for the peek inside AG. I guess.

That's because you'd made up your mind before you went. You should read the whole post.

tis one of the best stories i have heard. the animation, and delivery of the story in the film is worth the watch, worth a trip to the store or online to purchase.

I have children so it is a 10 in my book for them. it is along the lines of "Snowman" in quality of content.

and yes mari, in a way it is a "spoof" i posted it as a joke for all ya'all.

as a matter of fact.... i think i will look for it now, have a sit spell and watch it. tis cold and windy out at the moment. perfect to watch The Man Who Planted Trees.

I'm sure it was very enlightening, Bruce. Alas, I only have so much time between packing breaks and my eyes began to glaze over when I saw the length of it. I'll take your word that it was a very deep and worthy post, and that the comments which followed after it were in no way a reflection on the OP's true brilliance.

DVD, or any of the other mediums, can't compare to the written word, for me.
They'll never match my sweet imagination, I think it goes.

I like the relaxing vibe of the animation and Christopher Plummer delivers a soothing read.

"The rich language of French author Jean Giono combines with the breathtaking artistry of illustrator/animator Frederic Back to tell this triumphant tale in which one man's indomitable spirit transforms a desolate land into a thriving garden of trees. Back's delicate pastels sweep readers into the solitary world of Elzeard Bouffier, a world in which one individual, undeterred by great wars and other setbacks, and without thought of reward, makes a significant difference. The Man Who Planted Trees is an inspiring parable for all ages.

Other Credits:

Societe Radio-Canada/DBD
Directed by Frederic Back
From the story by Jean Giono
French Version Narrated by Pilippe
Noiret
English Version Narrated by Christopher Plummer
Original music by Normand Roger
Executive Producer: Hubert Tison

Academy Award, Best Animated Short
Best of Festival 1989, American Film & Video Festival"

ROTFL! You're closer with that than Flint will likely admit!

Better be .50 BMG for your Barrett..

Puny .50 BMG ,
try this on for size ,
http://world.guns.ru/sniper/sn46-e.htm
Caliber(s): 15.2mm Steyr APFSDS
Operation: long recoil, semi-automatic
Barrel: 1200 mm
Weight: 18 kg
Length: 1800 mm
Feed Mechanism: 5 rounds detachable box mag.

IWS 2000 is wery formidable weapon. It fires 20 gramm (308 grains) tungsten dart (fleschette) with muzzle velocity of 1450 meters per second (4750 fps). At 1000 meters this projectile will penetrate a 40 mm of RHA (rollded homogenous steel armour) and will result in serious secondary fragmentation effect behind the armour. That said, it will penetrate two walls of any modern APC at one kilometer range. The trajectory is very flat and does not rise higher than 800 mm above the line of sight when fired to 1000 meters. The cartridge is of somewhat original design, and has plastic case with steel head and base. The projectile is concealed within a plastic sabot.

Yes, and it's quite impressive indeed but at 15.2mm it's not going to be civilian-legal under BATF so for most folks the 'puny' .50 BMG Barrett is the best they can do.
