Overview

That's the title, not my description. This beautiful video is worth watching fullscreen.

Quote:
On the 40th anniversary of the famous ‘Blue Marble’ photograph taken of Earth from space, Planetary Collective presents a short film documenting astronauts’ life-changing stories of seeing the Earth from the outside – a perspective-altering experience often described as the Overview Effect.

The Overview Effect, first described by author Frank White in 1987, is an experience that transforms astronauts’ perspective of the planet and mankind’s place upon it. Common features of the experience are a feeling of awe for the planet, a profound understanding of the interconnection of all life, and a renewed sense of responsibility for taking care of the environment.

‘Overview’ is a short film that explores this phenomenon through interviews with five astronauts who have experienced the Overview Effect. The film also features insights from commentators and thinkers on the wider implications and importance of this understanding for society, and our relationship to the environment.

I love to watch Jackie Chan. So does this guy, compiling his list of the Jackie's top ten stunts. One of the guiltiest pleasures of his movies is to watch the outtakes and bloopers that the credits are rolled over at the end of some of his movies, ambulances, cervical collars and blood and all. Yeeee-ikes!

You're welcome, friend. I agree with you. After watching it a few times, I did a little more investigation. I found these links helpful to my understanding of what they were talking about, but I had trouble understanding the words the fellow said.

I'm pleased you enjoyed it as much as I did.

Grand Rapids MI.

I suspect that this might have already been posted but a quick search didn't come up with anything.

Anyway.....

In 2011 Newsweek described Grand Rapids as a 'dying city'. Local people disagreed with that assessment and made this video in response.

Posted because I like it!

PS Watch out for the lad at the rear of the marching band who dropped his drum. He wasn't playing it at the time.

How they make slinky paper sculptures. Long, but you can skip through.

So, this Marine pilot, name of Mahoney, goes out for a flight off the USS Bataan, only to have the Harrier's front landing gear stick. In the up position.

No prob. Dude's a Marine. Adapt and overcome!

Someone said "Get him a stool."

And then they did.

Cheese Rolling, Coopers Hill, Brockworth UK.

Every Spring Bank Holiday, the Cooper's Hill cheese rolling race takes place.
A 9lb round Double Gloucester Cheese is rolled down the hill and the competitors chase after it.

Wikipedia gives a couple of suitably high minded theories as to the origins of the event, but I suspect that it was started by some of the locals who emerged remarkably well refreshed from the pub one night and things moved on from there.

Cheese Rolling.

I loved the Harrier vid, and told my family about it today. Of course, I have a Marine pilot as a nephew. Thanks grav. Good stuff!

I don't typically watch the giant youtube option vids. I'm sure I would have seen great videos if I had the patience for the 'big truck' mentality. ymmv
