Even down here where we have compulsory voting, the polls are frequently way out. People often give an emotional response to a pollster's question, but when the day actually comes to mark their ballot paper, they usually vote according to their heads, not their hearts (there will always be exceptions, of course).

I think that's true here too. Some people are annoyed by pollsters who call on the phone or stop them on the street and lie or give off hand remarks.
