JJ Cale recorded his own songs, did the engineering and everything, but avoided the limelight so never sold well.
Clapton said Cale and Hendrix were the best guitar players in the world.

However the songs he wrote did sell well...
"After Midnight" and "Cocaine" by Eric Clapton;
"Call Me the Breeze" by Lynyrd Skynyrd, John Mayer, Johnny Cash, and Bobby Bare;
"Clyde" by Waylon Jennings and Dr. Hook;
"I Got The Same Old Blues" by Captain Beefheart, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Freddie King, and Bryan Ferry;
"Travelin' Light" and "Ride Me High" by Widespread Panic;
"Magnolia" by Poco, Pat Travers, Beck, Lucinda Williams, Iron & Wine, José Feliciano, Ben Bridwell, John Mayer with Eric Clapton, Joan Shelley, and Sadie Johnson;
“Bringing It Back” covered by Kansas.
and many more.

I remember the first time I heard him do Call Me The Breeze. I'd only ever heard the Lynyrd Skynyrd version.

I was gobsmacked.

This is Dylan's first take on Hurricane. Apparently this one got lawyered away. As noted in the YouTube conversation the slower tempo feels better than the version that was published.

I love their album together. It's been seeing a lot of play time in the glatt household.

They are both playing locally in the DC area this summer, but not together.

Sting and Shaggy? Never thought there'd be a much better duo than Batman and Robin.

Thompson Twins are from Sheffield, along with Human League, Heaven 17, Def Leppard, Pulp, Joe Cocker, and Arctic Monkeys.

i thought you might like to know for no reason at all
