You go to that .gov link, and they tell you that you need a gallon of water per person per day for three days MINIMUM. So my go "bag" is supposed to have 12 gallons of water in it, that's before everything else. I guess I need to buy a tanker truck.

These catastrophes would significantly lower my post count unless the networks are built underground. I can't buy in to any lack of communications during catastrophic events. You, I have to know where my mom is...
Chances are- if I did not know- I would not be underground unless that was her location.

In other words: I would be one of the idiots in the film "that goes out there" in search of others.

I'm glad we got a Colbert link, as the first thing that came to mind is the 2012 zombie resurrection and attack.

We've gone over the BOB idea in the cellar before so I won't go into a lot of detail. The water issue is a big one though. Are there any creeks, rivers, or lakes near you? Then you BOB should have some water in it, but you should also have a sufficient supply of water purification options with you. I live in the freaking desert and even here I wouldn't have a problem if my water stores were running low.

Thanks, I appreciate that.

I always tried to be a positive influence on people wherever I go.

Back on topic though. After all... the Internet IS serious business.

If there were to be some catastrophy/e (that's a tough word to spell for an old stroke-prone guy like myself)... I'd just wander around like one of those decrepid characters you see on full lenght feature films like "The Book of Eli" (I'd be the guy who got shot and eaten) or, if I'm lucky, I might hook up with Woody Harrelson and we could kill Zombies. Now I could deal with that.

If this world as we know it goes to shit. I wonder if Obama will run for President again? Hell, I'd probably even vote for the idiot this time around - couldn't do any worse.

Oops... Sorry, this isn't the poiltical forum. Me bad...

Pretty big. But I can carry it comfortably.

Glatt, I believe that's if you are staying put at home.

Yes, there are two...a stream and a river. I have a small supply of water purification tablets. After that, it's filtering and boiling or catching rainwater.

I'm operating under the assumption that all open water will have dead bodies decomposing in it.

MMMM, meat-flavored water. I like the sound of that.

Right. You can never assume that water is clean. It may look clean where you're at but, as you said, you can have rotting animals further upstream or they could be using it as a toilet.

Seems pretty posh to me...I mean I've spent up to 77 days on a submerged submarine - no sun, fresh air, women, booze, radio, live TV, intwerwebz, or fresh veggies, fruit, milk, or eggs. Just give me women or booze and I could make it a year easy. Give me both and then I could easily double that.
