New Delawarean

My family and I will soon be official Delawareans. Our new house has been ready for a few months but we have been waiting for the sale of our current house.

The new house is fully functional and only about 15 minutes from our current house but is across the border in Delaware. I am waiting on an outdoor deck and media room.

Smaller house but very nice.

BTW, the Delawarite vs Delawarean debate was captured in this episode of Taxi (last 5 minutes). Fun. I had to look up the correct spelling.

Don't go unemployed while you live there, it turns out that DE's unemployment is just terrible. You might as well work

It does sort of suck that I have been paying into PA for almost 40 years and am starting a clean slate. Thankfully, FICA is federal.

No sales tax, but for nondelivered items I had that anyway. Lower property tax but higher state income tax because of zero corporate tax.

So, moved in three weeks ago. You have not heard from me because the cable company screwed up our installation. We had a guy come out twice and both times the hookup to the house wasn't ready. Since we are now getting phone service bundled, that meant no Internet or phone for 3 weeks except for our cellphones.

So, boxes are everywhere, there is an empty space out back where our deck should be, and the home theatre needs carpet nailed down and curtains installed. Other than that we're moved in. I got my Delaware license. When you hand in the paperwork, the person is behind a standard counter like you see in a bank. When you go to pick up your license, the person is behind about an inch of bulletproof glass. I figured that this was because it's the first time people get to see their drivers license photo.

This is the worst picture ever taken of me. In Pennsylvania, you get a few tries to approve the photo. Delaware was a surprise.

I'm still getting used to the house. I don't feel completely settled yet. In some ways it feels like staying in a hotel room.

Cook a few meals stain a carpet and it'll be home.

I read that as "New Delorean", thinking some concept car designer or enthusiast is celebrating our arrival to the timeline of Back To The Future part 2.
