Fucking Lame

So last nite I was playing Counter Strike: Source when my roommate brought over 5 of his friends from University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and they crashed in the room for a while. Well then I leave to go to my friend's dorm to hang out then head out for the nite.

Well right after I leave those bastards use my desktop...to watch Beerfest. They streamed it through 4 parts, and U of I only allows 750 megs of bandwidth usage per day and they fucking used like 400 in 2 hours. WITHOUT ASKING ME! I checked my bandwidth this morning and my Firefox history and came to this conclusion.

I texted my roommate and called him out. He lied about it and said he was showering the whole time and didn't know. But...the whole movie is like 2 hours. And the bandwidth showed it skyrocketed over a 2 hour span. Fucking liar. This is the first tension between my roommate and I. We aren't really friends, we've never hung out but I've been really respectful of his stuff and the room, asking if it's ok if a friend slept in his bed while he was gone. I bought him a 24 pack of water since I drank some of his, paid him half of the cost of the fridge he brought and NEVER once snooped on his laptop. That's why this is bullshit. I didn't warrant any of this nor deserve it. His last text message to me goes like this:
"Hey bro there dumbasses went on it but i shoulda stopped them..my bad but ppl make mistakes ya know?"

I responded with: "Yeah."

I don't know how to handle the situation cause, we aren't friends. We're just roommates.

Fucking lame.

Forget about it. Lock-down your computer to prevent it in the future.

Yeah, people make mistakes and you damn sure aren't going to be making THAT mistake again!
*meaning that he SHOULD have stopped his friends from using your things and you won't give him an opportunity to fail you again.
You know you can't count on him, now. Kudos to YOU for being so respectful. Bad ju-ju on him for not returning the favor...

Just don't allow them access to your computer (or anything else that's yours) in future.

Some people can be complete fucking arseholes. In fact, the world is full of them.

I don't blame you for being pissed off. I would be too.

People get being polite with letting people walk on you these days.
Saying no does not mean you are being impolite.

Just lock up your computer. Half of my hall does that now since they all play pranks on eachother if they leave their computer unlocked. I'm lucky because no one fucks with my stuff since my roommate can be insane.

They are just douches, don't worry too much about it.

Yeah, I really didn't expect this.

Is it pushing it, to set my webcam to motion detecting? I mean I'm definately going to motion detect on weekends when I'm out at nite. This was a lot of trust lost. But I even thought of doing it like when I'm out between classes.

I don't think that's wrong. What I don't understand is why don't you just lock it up?

I wouldn't do the webcam thing but lock your computer and keep better track of your stuff.

Why bother with physical locks? Just lock this guy out with a password.

If he's motivated and sharp enough to circumvent it, he's going to fuck with it anyway.

if you dont think telling him not to will work, and you can't trust him to respect your stuff, you shouldnt be living with him.

Does the bandwidth reset at midnight. As far as I can tell from what you wrote, you suffered no tangible harm or delay, just the betrayal of trust. I'm not trying to downplay the importance of that, trying to establish the full extent of their transgressions. If there's not monetary compensation due, then.... Strike One. Always forgive, never forget.

It's a DESKTOP. I can't really, lock it up. I can turn it off? I can password protect my user names, that's it. And for now I'll just overlook it since it's only the first instance.
