August 24, 2011 Earthquake

Here is some of the damage from yesterday's Virginia earthquake.

Imagine if that had been your head!

The scary thing is that the East Coast has tons of brick buildings, which easily crumble in earthquakes. We in California know about these things. We have very few brick buildings anymore.

It rattled a pretty big area. The furthest north I have heard it was felt was in Canada. The furthest west was reported from Ohio and the furthest south was reported from South Carolina.

Pretty sure the New Zealanders or the Japanese would gladly swap places with us.

Willing to bet he had some other damage to the windshield, and perhaps a couple thousand of brick repairs needed to his house ... and now the insurance will pay for it. Or maybe FEMA. But not him.

I don't think it would look quite like that. All a bit too tidy.

depends on what the deductible is and what the policy states.

Believe me, i've been dealing with the insurance co. for quite a while now about my effing roof. It's not all roses and sunshine.

Get a public adjuster. Sometimes just threatening the ins co with a public adjuster will make them roll on their backs and pee.

We just had an earthquake. Epicenter 3 miles away, magnitude 3.6, 7 km deep.

No damage.

We are too used to them. We just sat here and watched. We waited to see how long it was going to roll. We weren't quite to the point of heading for the doorway.

Last night, we had two at around 11:40 and midnight. I didn't feel those.

It is eery having earthquakes here and there at the same time.

PS: I just heard there was one in Colorado, too!

Just more signs of the coming apocalypse. Nothing to worry about. Move along. Nothing to see.

The 5.3 Colorado earthquake was on the southern border. Here in Vail, CO (middle of the state) we didn't feel anything.

Read all about it here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_adjuster

I've never done it myself but a friend has and he was very satisfied. It's especially helpful when you know the ins co has to pay and they are dicking around and dragging their feet and trying to lowball you.
