My New TV Addiction...

I've come across a British TV show that is brilliant. It's funny as hell.

It's called, The IT Crowd.

The first one I saw was actually from the 2nd season.

http://tvshack.net/tv_shows/The_IT_C...on_2/episode_2

It was so funny I went to Season 1 and I can't stop myself.

You can find the shows here:

or

I REALLY hope someone picks this up in America. I doubt they could do it more funny though. They get away with more profanity over there.

Currently, the only British shows I watch are Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Graham Norton.

Sweet!!! I just found out NBC is picking up the show. They've got the same nerdy black guy, but a different blonde and they've replaced the Irish guy.

Pro1: Jolly good laugh. I needed one after the shitty day I've had.
ro2: Video quality of .DIVX files are a lot better than YouTube's .FLVs.
Pro3: DivX Web Player includes download feature.
Con: Took way too long time to buffer at my current connection speed (800Kbps).

Figures. Almost everything at the BBC has been imported and americanized.

Anyway, IT might not: http://www.zap2it.com/tv/news/zap-nb...,7647371.story

I hope not, and BBC America or Comedy Central picks up the original UK version.

I'd prefer it if HBO picked it up, kept the original cast...and language, and made a lot more than 6 episodes per year. I really don't think the American cast will have the chemistry or timing of the British cast.

Yes, the IT Crowd rocks. They really should keep the whole original cast for an American version.

No American version, just import it, and show it.

no! American version!
I'm British (more specificly North London) and i'm a little tired of British humour, I think one the whole American comedy is funnier.
The Office for instance, LOVE the American version (although we're yet to get season 3 on dvd over here) but I just can't get into the British version,
I think you guys would do a great The IT crowd,
although it's hard to picture Moss played by an American,

Oh man I love that show. It's one of my favourites.

What is it with you guys and having to do american versions of the shows? When we get an American show we generally just show it and it rocks. Some of my favourite comedy shows have been American. Sometimes we get inspired by your show and do something similar, with similar themes but not a straight out Brit version of the comedy (reality shows and quizzes maybe). For me I love to see the American sense of humour. It's subtly different to the English humour and it's also great to hear the American accents.

Timo, I gotta say, yeah American shows are funny. But so are many Brit shows. Black Books was hysterical. Greenwing had me in stitches. IT Crowd is quintessentially English. The Office was amazing, yeah the American version was funny but to me the English version was much funnier (if a little excruciating). Extras was also a classy number. American comedy is often brilliant. But so is Brit comedy. They offer different perspectives and a slightly different take on the world.

The wonderful thing about sharing a language and almost sharing a culture is that our comedies translate to each other well (imo) without being identical.

The Brit Whose Line always had a bit less show and a bit more funny to it. Luckily they kept Ryan Stiles and Colin Mochrie, but it seemed like at some point they decided to have all of the "improvs" be pre-decided things that the guys are good at. That seemed to take the comedy edge off it.

I prefer the American version of The Office, but I just don't see an American version of the IT Crowd being as funny. One reason is because the Brits can get away with harsher language, and another is because the show has a slight Monty Python feel to it. I was sad to see the first boss die, even though the guy who plays his son is funny too...but not quite as much.
