Wizard World comic convention

Wizard World is in Philadelphia next weekend.

I'm enough of a fanboy that I'm considering attending on Saturday (the only day of the three I can make it).

However I'm enough of a cheap bastard that I'm starting to have second thoughts about whether the $20 admission is worth it.

Anybody been to one of these things? Is it any good? Or are you just paying for the privilege of shopping from the exhibitors?

Geez.. last comicbook/Sci-fi convention I went to was in Denver.. and for the most part it was just a chance to buy over priced crap.. but I did get to see some awesome new Anime.. got drunk on rum and port (yeah.. bad combination) and started a fight with a Klingon.. I don't know he was yelling something that sounded like Boc-Choy in an aggressive manner.. and well the next thing you know I'm being escorted out and asked to please never return.. it was worth it though.. as the invasion hasn't started yet

let me guess... an anual meeting of the Klingons United Now (and) Then? it would be a riot... no really..I'm just kidding. HELL! I'll bring the Port!

the convention was kinda fun though and I've always (inverted L on forhead) wanted to go to Gencon (although since Wizards of the Coast bought out Gary Gygax..eh.. I don't want to give them any of my money) anyway! have a lovely day.

heh, my highschool 10 year reunion.. now THAT was interesting...

Wizard World comic convention

Having never been to a convention of this type, but having read about some of the wackos that turn up at these things don't you think it's just slightly spooky that people spend a lot of money dressing up as klingons or whatever.
I really go for SF/fantasy fiction but dressing up is taking it too far.
I remember reading about a guy who thought he was Elric reicarnated spent a fortune getting the sword made clothes made, hair bleached and was very miffed when the local police arrested him for wandering down some street waving his sword or "Soul eater" around

Or maybe Ive become a boring old fart who knows!

Alright, everyone ready for what little respect they had for me to go down even further?

I dressed up for an anime convention once with some friends, and even performed on stage.

But in my defense... my costume was really cheap, a whole group of us made ours together so it was a social activity, they were GOOD costumes because we all did theatre and knew what we were doing, and every single one of us won various monetary/merchandise prizes for our costumes.

Not to mention internet fame--I imagine the many photos of that event are still out there...

I went to some convention (gencon??) 11 at the LAX Wilshire or Hilton years ago...1991? 92? It's a role-playing convention, and I had never played GURPS before. There was a tournament. I entered. I placed Third, and got the Third Edition Hard Cover of the Basic Rules. Just recently lost it when I abandoned my possessions in Vegas.

I honestly don't have one, it was years ago. I think I may have downloaded them at the time though, I'll see if I can find them.

Steve, I can't say for sure about a comic convention, but in my opinion many anime conventions are worth the price. But a lot of that is because they show anime that hasn't been released here that you might never see otherwise. I don't know what sort of perks a comic convention has other than meeting comic artists.

okay.. for real..

at said convention a friend of mine got some very rare collectable stuff that he had been dying to get for a long time and I did get to meet some star types (sold their autographed stuff on ebay last year) so I suppose it depends on what you're hoping to get out of going.. and like I said i got to see some movies that had never made it to the states.. and more than likely never will, the overall experience was fun. so my vote is that you should go, nothing ventured and all that
