Aunt S, a eulogy

Eulogy for S. 13 Feb 2013

S's my Aunt, she's known me all my life. As you know, she was quite a globetrotter. Despite this, we remained close always. S and G were my "cool" Aunt and Uncle. Younger and more exciting than my Mom and Dad (no disrespect!), I always had fun with them, especially S. Fun, that is, when I wasn't being schooled in cards--that woman could read minds at the card table. It wasn't fun when I called her with all my own personal drama and she let me cry all over her. It wasn't fun when she taught me how to navigate the federal bureaucracy for my Mom or when she helped me grieve the loss of my Dad. Giving me her ear, and her shoulder, and her heart wasn't fun in those circumstances, but it was generous and loving.

And she was generous and loving as you all know. And visiting her Germany and in Maine and right here in OKC really was fun. I remember one time we were visiting the Crystal Gardens here. As you saw, there have been many pictures taken on adventures with S. Well, as I was trying to pose for a picture on this little bridge, I slipped and fell into the water completely soaking my pants. We laughed our butts off all the way home as I sat on a plastic bag. Ahhh... good times, good times. Walkng down Main Street on Christmas Eve in Presque Isle Maine and having it start to snow just like in the movies; going to the spa in Baden-Baden Germany. Truly, good times.

Talking to her on the phone all the time, sharing our lives with each other, good times and otherwise, those are the memories I have of her. That is the Aunt S I love and the Aunt S that will be with me always, even though I miss her terribly. She has always been in my heart, and that will never change.

I love you Aunt S.

Your nephew,

V

She sounds like the ideal aunt. So sorry for your loss but you are right, she will always be in your heart.

Thanks, V.
I could never pretend to know her, but it was a beautiful eulogy.

And my condolences for a good woman passing from your life.
