May 9th, 2017: Paper Tiger

Patrick Cabral does extremely intricate cut paper sculptures, among other arts.
This shit just rocks my world, it's so intricate and gorgeous.

He posted on Instagram that he wanted to do something for charity to mark UN Wildlife Day.

A statement like that from class A artist is bound to be noticed so within days he was contacted by Acts of Kindness, one of
those volunteer organization who do so much good with their animal shelters on a shoestring. But when they buttonhole you,
are almost scary in their passion for/devotion to, the cause.

He’s done a series of fifteen big papercuts starting with the polar bear, adding buffalo, rhino, elephant, tiger, gorilla, etc.
The works are being auctioned off through Acts of Kindness of which 50% of the proceeds will go towards the World Wide Fund
(the real WWF, not the actors wrestling), in the Philippines.

You'd have to put these in a glass display because dusting would be impossible. If you have cats? Fugetaboutit.

Must use really, really, small scissors.

He must also buy Exacto blades by the thousands since you need very sharp tips to cut that kind of detail and cutting paper uses them up in inches.

When I was doing layups with pre-impregnated carbon fiber fabric for R&D, prior to production of the V-22 aircraft, I changed blades in my razor knife every 5 minutes. The blade was still sharp, but the first 1/8 of an inch from the point back was gone.

Wow Bruce. I use mine for electronics work and blow the tips off frequently. I buy them in 50 packs now.

I was in fucking heaven when I found a knife pivoted on the central screw to open like scissors, and I could change blades in five seconds. The drawback was it wouldn't retract but I could live with that. At the end of the day it went in my box and I could use a different one to play Jack the Ripper during full moons.
