Another Philly radio shift

WPEN (950 AM) has gone from Oldies to Sports-Talk, taking on the 900-pound gorilla of WIP.

They are going to lose, because the majority of their shows are national, not local. Steve Czaban (Fox Sports Radio) in the morning, Tony Bruno at 9, Jim Rome early afternoons? Yawn. Angelo & Co. may be inane at times, but they're local institutions.

However, there is one nice development: Jody McDonald has returned to Philly to take on Howard Eskin from 3-7. Now I finally have something to listen to during afternoon drive.

We now have two sports-talk stations here in St. Louis. Actually, we kinda have 4, if you count KMOX (which carries the Cardinals) and KTRS (which carries the Blues). KSLG started carrying ESPN Radio, and now has Bernie Miklasz (a reporter for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch), who used to be on KMOX. The station seems to be holding its own against KFNS (the original sports-talk station in town).

I have never understood the appeal of Eskin. I wish Jody well in taking him on.

I always liked Tony Bruno when he was here--I checked out his show a couple times on XM.

He used to be on WIP in the mornings with Angelo Cataldi and Al Morganti, back mid-90s or so.

Remember that incident a year or so ago where Eskin got pulled over for speeding by a cop, and he wasted a ton of airtime bitching about it?

I met the cop.

He pulled him over again.
