Superman is as American as Apple laptops. They're both from somewhere else Krypton, China, whatever.
But Sup is our hero, red white and blue, and many countries are jealous. In fact many tried to lure him away with underhanded tricks and schemes. Even perennial good guy Amsterdam tried with luxury phone booths...  Telephone booth in former post office in Het Schip, Amsterdam, early 1920s He could keep Krypto, Streaky, Beppo, and Comet in there. link

It's not as sophisticated as this British police box that opens with the snap of the fingers; but, I suppose it's the best the Amsterdamits at that time could do.
