A Nice, Quiet Bar

My great search for a quiet bar to have a drink has finally led me to the most peaceful one, yet.

That's not rot, that's "quaint".

Such a comfortable bar! It seats around six. Oh, watch your head!

A skylight addition, probably added in after the place was built.

You couldn't believe the quiet. In a town where phosphate mining was king and the entire town was sold off when the company went bankrupt in 1971, the only sound there was the dull *thud* of explosions at another mine, miles away. Thats creepy-quiet.

No smoke, but it wasn't all that cool, either! Check out where the air conditioner used to be. The vines' struggle to get inside looks almost violent!

But, hey, thats why all the windows were shot out. Nice breeze flowing through.

Somebody worked hard at breaking those glass blocks. A small caliber bullet or even a hammer, won't do it without multiple blows.

Such is the beauty of rural America: everything is up for target practice. Stop signs, fence posts, train crossing signals... the rate that everything has to be replaced must be amazing.

The glass and meter on this pole are brand new, but the box its in is ancient. Can you guess why?

Those are great pictures. I love pictures that show how nature will reclaim a space if it's left alone.

I like how despite all the destruction and aging, the sign for the women's bathroom looks like it was painted yesterday. Nature knows what's important.

I noticed that while there, too, and I'm confused why. For awhile, I thought maybe the camera flash caused it with reflection or something, but I do remember noticing how good that paint looked compared to everything else while I was tromping around the muddy floor.

The really amazing part is how long this place has sat along the highway, abandoned, and how little damage there is. In fact, there are no signs that anyone else has been there. The lights that fell from the rotten ceiling are in the same place they've been since they hit the ground. Not a drop of spaypaint, no graffiti, nothing carved up, no beer bottles, no needles, no meth lab, etc. It should give you a good indication of how far out in the middle of nowhere this place is.

...or maybe "women" is actually graffiti?

Why was the meter replaced? What's being powered?

Nearby railroad track crossing. Judging from the bullet holes and "pang marks", the thing gets hit quite often.

That is one neat-o, cool looking place. I'll bet there are a lot of ghosties about!! Drunk ghosties! What fun! Kitsune, is this place in Florida?

Indeed, it is. You can read a little bit about it, here.

I've actually gotten in touch with someone that was born in Brewster (in 1928!) and she has some good stories and information about what the place was once like. It appears to have been quite the model of a company town.

The smokestack, the very first thing built in the town in 1920, still stands.

Wow--so cool! Ghost's abound! Did it "feel" that way--? You know, haunted, lost, reaching into the past...all that?

"Yes."

That is about all I will comment on that at this time. I didn't stick around long because of feelings and occurances along those lines.
