Thats what happens to me ... I get in a groove and just go from one to the next.

Headed to see GTLO tomorrow in Reading. They are a Led Zepp Cover band. Apparently they are REALLY good. I'm takin Dan so it should be fun either way.

I saw them down your way last summer. Very solid musical experience.

(Lil' G still owes me a t-shirt from festivus)

Featuring one of my favorite British actors, Maxine Peak - this album is the story of the Pendle Witches - executed in 1612. It's a story anybody from Pendle, or the surrounding towns, like Bolton and Bury, grows up knowing about - absorbed as part of the local culture.

As kids we all 'knew' Pendle Hill was where the witches danced. Stories abounded that they still did. My brother and his best friend camped out there one night when they were about 13, to try and see them.

They really rocked it out solid. LOUD too.
We had a damn fine time. Beers were pretty cheap also.
I'd definitely recommend them for any Zep Fans.

I don't know for sure, but this sounds like it might be based on the commission into women and children in the mines in the 1840s - fascinating document.

[edit] yes, it is based on the mining commission - Kershaw is listed here:

http://www.victorianweb.org/history/ashley.html

The commissioner's description of the girl, after hearing her testimony is an excellent exampleofthe tone of the enquiry:

Quote:
This girl is an ignorant, filthy, ragged, and deplorable-looking object, and such an one as the uncivilized natives of the prairies would be shocked to look upon.

VULFPECK

Happened a couple nights ago.

Vulfpeck is blowing up, and they know it. This was a big LA appearance for them I'm sure. They are from Michigan and don't get to tour much. The sax player is sitting in for this song, playing where vocals normally go; Vulfpeck is mostly instrumental, but this is one song they had a guest vocalist sing.

So when the crowd sings the chorus at 0:53, look at keyboardist Woody Goss's face. So at 1:20 the song goes "Frank Sinatra", and they give that line to the crowd, and the crowd takes it, how beautiful is that.

Joe Dart remains my favorite bass player because of how he moves. Look at that guy. That is how a bass player should behave.

Courtney Barnett

These are the first two songs off her new album and I am enjoying them very much. It fills some need in me, they are raw and simple, without being too ordinary or rootsy. Back to basics and for some reason it feels more original than it might really be. I guess partly because she is singing in her delightful accent, which I now believe everyone should do. It's more genuine.
