Kids Craft Corner

I just got done doing a trial run of my planned craft for my daughter's Daisy Girl Scout meeting, and it turned out so cool I wanted to share!

Hopefully others will post their successes so I can get more ideas

Recycled Crayons

Beg broken crayons from teachers, daycares and friends who have a lot of kids.

Run a paring knife or razor blade down the side of the label and peel them all off. Ice cream is a good bribe to get your kid(s) to help with the peeling when you run out of patience.

I made molds out of heavy duty aluminum foil using the bottom of a medicine box. I thought making shaped crayons using cookie cutters to shape the foil would be cool, but I didn't feel like digging around in my pantry to try to find 'em.

Preheat your oven to 300 degrees F.

Line a pan with aluminum foil in case your molds leak. Mine did a little.

Fill them about 3 crayons deep (2-3 cm or 1") and put them in the oven.

After 14, I took them out and used a toothpick to mix the colors a bit. Next time I will use a Q-tip to get more swirls.

It took about 20 minutes of sitting on the counter for them to be cool enough to peel off the foil, and another 10 after that for them to be hard enough to color with.

I saw these on Etsy. The seller wanted 5 bucks for three puckshaped ones made in a mini muffin tin. Pfffft. I like my stick shaped ones better .

If I had a band saw, I'd be all over that!!!

Since we don't, can I put it on my secret santa wish list?

Don't need a bandsaw, a simple coping saw will do it. $4.99 here. $8 at Sears.
