April 12, 2012 Underwater Hockey

In the 1950's, some British divers were trying to figure out how to stay fit during the winter months when the water was too cold for diving. Someone came up with the idea of underwater hockey!

It's not going to be terribly fast, is it? I am planning on attempting an underwater hockey game at the pool this summer. No masks or snorkels will be allowed, though. Although we could use the snorkels for sticks...

Why, why, why, would you not allow masks? Who the heck wants to poison their eyes and end up with red-eye just to get some fun exercise? I'd make them mandatory or I doubt you'll keep any players coming back.

Besides it will completely ruin any babe checking possibilities.

British divers did not need an exercise to keep them fit in the winter months.

a) the divers I knew idea of exercise at any time of year was exercising their arm at the pub.

b) water in most of the UK is more or less equally cold in the winter and summer.

c) swimming is already exercise

so why did they invent underwater hockey, for the lulz, we used to play something similar at my club, just an excuse to rough house in the pool.

In a pool that is salinated rather than chlorinated, you can open your eyes and still not poison them. And they're cheaper to maintain and are great for your skin and hair! But I digress.

In my experience, the salt pools are just as nasty.
