psychology survey

I am making a proposal in a class that people with more than one personality disorder who are convicted of a violent crime should receive mandatory therapy with length of treatment determined by therapist as a part of their probation. I currently have a perfect split gender line of respondents who think it is a good idea or not. I need some male responses, I only have two. Another thing I propose is that children who have oppositional defiant and/or conduct disorder should also attend mandatory therapy to try and prevent development of antisocial personality disorder. I would really appreciate any responses, all I need to know about you is your gender and whether you are a psych student. Thanks to anyone who responds.

Very interesting questions. I dont know but I'll think it over and post something in the next few days.

I'm male and not a psych student.

Re: psychology survey

I would say yes to both...they seem reasonable.

I am a male and not currently a psych student, though I have a BA in Psychology.

info. on disorders

I don't want to discuss the disorders in a way that might let my opinions bias anyone, so here are a few links to the disorders I'm focusing on:

http://www.geocities.com/ptypes/antisocialpd.html

http://www.geocities.com/ptypes/narcissisticpd.html

http://www.mentalhealth.com/dis1/p21-pe05.html

These are links to the official DSM IV criteria for these disorders.

Since I am currently living in an area that appears to be a humor vacuum, I don't mind at all. But FYI, borderline personality disorder is a predominantly feminine disorder.

Low Agreeableness

Cynicism and paranoid thinking; inability to trust even friends or family; quarrelsomeness; too ready to pick fights; exploitive and manipulative; lying; rude and inconsiderate manner alienates friends, limits social support; lack of respect for social conventions can lead to troubles with the law; inflated and grandiose sense of self; arrogance.

Nice, but looks like they forgot the picture of El Sycamore*

I disagree with both.

Girl. Not a student.

Hey, while I'm in the nut thread here, I was wondering if this might be a real problem.

I see this little mouse zip out from under my couch and he sings La Cucaracha.

Problem or no?

I think we'd all like to see (effective) therapy administered to violent offenders and future violent offenders, but is this a new concept?

My experience in the psych world is limited to a college class or two, but isn't antisocial and narcissistic behavior a common denominator in most criminals? If so then the condition of your proposal would eliminate very few. You might as well say therapy is required for all offenders - and is that possible?

Also - you say the therapy s/b part of their probation..Is this after a 20 year prison term?
