Has it started, or simply not ended yet this year?

Hurricane seaons (officially) ends in October. And then a tenth tropical storm was so violent as to literally ripped the bridge and another deck clean off a cargo ship in late October. Eleventh and final was first week in November. That ended a hurricane season.
Last year, Ana started the season early - at the start of May. Four years ago. Alberto started in the second week of May. Hurricanes once occurred only when the oceans were warm enough in July, August, and September. Alex starts a new season now that days are getting longer. Followed by : Bonnie, Colin. Danielle, Earl, Fiona, Gaston, Hermine, Ian, Julia, Karl, Lisa, Matthew, Nicole. Otto, Paula, Richard, Shary, Tobias, Virginie, and Walter. Or course, this proves global cooling must be happening. Extremist said so. It must be true. |

Of course! How stupid of me. I failed to realize the significance of Alex starting with an A. Pretty obvious in hindsight.
