Just ran across this today...

Quote:
Kathleen Barrett, a 67-year-old Democrat from Bridgeport, expressed disappointment with the ugliness of the campaigns as she showed up at the Black Rock School in Bridgeport to cast her vote.

“I didn’t want to know what your opponent did wrong,” she said. “I want to know what you’re going to do when you get there.”

Time to trot out another one of my theories: the psychologist fulfills the same function as the Catholic confessional.

Well, sorta ...

The Catholic Church can't bill your insurance. Instead they make you pay up in weekly increments that probably add up to more than a typical co-pay.

A psychologist works to try to make you feel better about yourself, regardless of your past actions. The Catholic Church aims for the opposite.

A psychologist may give you "homework" to do before your next session, but most of it will not require that you spend time on your knees repeating some words as though you were obsessive-compulsive.

The Catholic Church frequently offers family sessions, where an ethical psychological provider will refer you to another provider.

It is absurd to divide people into good and bad. People are either charming or tedious.

When you go to a restaurant on the weekends and it’s busy so they start a waiting list, they say, “DuFresnes, party of two, table ready for DuFresnes, party of two.” And if no one answers they’ll say the name again: “DuFresnes, party of two.” But then if no one answers, they’ll move on to the next name. “Bush, party of three.” Yeah, but what happened to the DuFresnes!? No one seems to care! Who can eat at a time like this!? People are missing. You people are selfish. The DuFresnes are in someone’s trunk right now, with duct tape over their mouths. And they’re hungry. That’s a double whammy. We need help. “Bush, search party of three.” You can eat once you find the DuFresnes.
