People treat me differently because I'm not so fat

I passed a milestone this morning and weighed in below 220. I've lost 22 pounds from 6 months ago and 45 from my "high weight" which I achieved in 2011.

Because it was late and there were no other customers, the hairdresser washed my hair after the cut. "It'll get rid of all the little hairs, plus I can compare the sides more easily," she said. After I left I realized... that never happened when I was a mess.

Things are changing. It's not coincidence.

The skinny guy running the self-checkout lanes opened up out of nowhere about the frozen chicken entrees I was buying. "They're great, did you try the cordon bleu?"

Skinny people never ask fat people about what food they're buying.

People are nicer and kinder and happier. They acknowledge me now, more than ever.

And the point is this.

What horrible assholes we all are.

It might not be because you look different - it might be because you hold yourself differently and give off a different vibe than you did.

When you were at your largest, were you also at your least socially confident? It may just be that you have a different air about you now, one that draws people in or makes them feel confident/comfortable engaging with you.

that's actually the right answer, Dana.

When you feel bad about you, you think people won't like you. and then they don't, because we're all connected and can sense that shit.

I'm HUGE. big fat guy. 320+ but I am dead sexy, and people like me. keep your eyebrows up.

It's all both isn't it? You feed off people and people feed off you.

I hugged a rather large gay black man in the park this morning, and that wouldn't have happened if he wasn't so self confident about it all. For so many reasons.

I wish cashiers would just keep their noses out of my funking purchases or at least not let their nebbiness slow them down. Yeah, I buy 50lb of pasta in one go. I'm damn well aware it's a lot of pasta. yes, I'm going to cook pasta. yes, I like pasta. Just STFU and run it over the GD scanner ktb (then you might notice it's on sale at 75% off).

I can't say I noticed the same when I lost weight (congrats btw). But then I didn't really gain any confidence either. If anything, I maybe lost some as I became acutely aware of how much more there was to go and just how skinny was normal

I hope I wasn't fishing for congrats (tho I do accept them and appreciate it, and thank you)

partly because this definitely doesn't count as an accomplishment for me yet; it's part way done and if I stop now it will all have been for nearly nothing.

Here is a Pro Tip

A year ago, my friend put on Facebook that he was going to lose a large amount of weight

(no it wasn't you terry)

He collected a good amount of well-wishes and likes and even congrats and such

But you know what happened, it lasted for three weeks

Now he feels bad that he let everybody down and that isn't really working for him

The Pro Tip is, and I just read this elsewhere so it's not original, don't announce to your friends and family and dwellars and facebookers that you are starting down some journey. You collect the congratulations now, but you are only due them at the end of the road. It gives you a false sense of accomplishment, yet achieves nothing. Save up those accolades for when you've actually done something.

It may depend on what you are wanting to do, and how long it takes to accomplish your goal.

Losing weight is of one kind.
You start today, but it takes a long time to see results.

Smoking is another kind.
You quit today, and the problem is to not start again.

I smoked for many years... until my daughter asked me to quit.
So I agreed to try and announced to everyone I knew that
I was going to quit on a certain date.
When the day arrived, I quit and didn't start again because
I didn't want
to face my friends and family with failure. It worked for me !

YMMV
