Clementines

Anyone try them? I picked up a 5lb bag at Sam's today. $5.88. They don't do much for me.
Of course I'm suppose to be smarter than going to Sam's this time of year. Just had to have mini egg rolls, smoked salmon, broccoli, coonass stuffed chicken breast, and grape tomatoes. And a bunch of other shit.
Sad part was getting home and making room in fridge and freezer.
But Mike and I eat at a Taco bell.

I am not terribly keen on clementines. Always struck me as a less tasty, harder to peel version of a satsuma.

I think this line's mostly filler.

Like all fruit, they can vary wildly in taste. A good clementine is quite tasty, but they can also be tasteless bags of mostly water.

If it's hard to peel, there's a good chance (in my experience) that it won't taste as good. The peel should be loose.

We must have a different clementine supplier than you guys... Ours are exceedingly easy to peel, and much sweeter than normal (naval) oranges. They're only available at the store a couple of times a year. I absolutely love them.

My kids love them - and they're $3something for 5lbs at our market right now.

I freaking love them. Except when you forget about them and you end up with a case of blue green squishy drippy fuzz.

Some sources say clementine, satsuma, and mandarin oranges are all the same thing, some say they are all very close relatives/crossbreeds of each other.

Ahhh...ok thanks Clod.

We get several different kinds of mandarines here. Some with loose skin and others with tight skin.

They all taste pretty good if you eat them when they're ready to be eaten.

Busterb, you should make it down to southern California sometime, and eat from a mom-and-pop taqueria (a taco joint, that is) what Taco Bell is in imitation of. It can come as firey or as gentle as you want!
