Bad Choice of Synonym

From the beginning, the McCain campaign has been running with the line that Obama is "elitist." Apparently someone forgot the talking points, and chose a really poor replacement word:

Georgia GOP Congressman Calls Obama 'Uppity'

In case you've never heard of Representative Lynn Westmoreland, he's also sort of famous for this little embarrassment. (5:00 minutes in...)

On behalf of the Black race, I'm sorry, Westmoreland, that Obama doesn't know his place, nor does he kowtow to a white man, or anybody he meets, nor does he goes down on his knees and say, 'Yesa masta.' I will promise to give him notice the next time we meet.

Westmoreland briefly gained some national attention when he sponsored legislation to post the Ten Commandments in the House and Senate chambers. Asked by Stephen Colbert in 2006 to name all ten, Westmoreland stumbled. "Um, don't murder, don't lie, don't steal," he offered, before confessing, "I can't name them."
Congress - you gotta hate it.

Better get the overseer to give that uppity [person of colour] a good whuppin.

In the thread: "Do you trust diebold to elect the president?" I had been tempted to post
Quote:
No but I don't trust the general voting public to elect the president either so I don't see why it matters
but I refrained since this seemed unjustifiably cynical.
After reading Sam's post I am reconsidering.

Oh no he di'int.

Seriously...that is pretty sick. I wouldn't call it a slip-up...there's an underlying attitude using that word.

Have any of you bothered to note what state he represents? This shouldn't really be that big of a surprise.

What? We have to put uppity on the list with niggardly now?

Stupid PC bullshit because of ignorant people that are so dumbed down they can't use a god damned dictionary.

I should start selling T-shirts. They would have a red, white, and blue donkey kicking and the words 'Kiss my uppity ass'.

I could sell thousands.

Seriously, most of the racists complain that blacks are not improving themselves. Then, when they encounter intelligent, articulate black men or women, they trot out the 'uppity' label.

How come noone has ever used uppity to describe Jews or Asians, two groups with a stereotype of overachieving, or any other racial group? I think there is a racist component to the term.
