Dec 5, 2009: Flying Pig

Well, boing more like boing bouncing pig, boing to be boing honest.
Quote:
This little piggy is more than happy to show the world two clean pairs of heels. At six weeks old, Scarlett the rare-breed porker has already mastered the art of trampolining.

Quote:
Owners Gwen and Steve Howell say the woolly Hungarian mangalitza enjoys the experience so much that their daughters Tara, 14, and Alex, eight, now have to wait their turn to play. Mr and Mrs Howell, both estate agents, have seven pet pigs on their farm in Shrewsbury. Scarlett's father Percy was the first to try the trampoline but is now so fat that he would probably break it.
The couple are planning to show off Scarlett's skills to Simon Cowell next week at auditions for Britain's Got Talent. Mrs Howell, 46, said: 'Scarlett will be trampolining and two of our other pigs, Arthur and Polly, will be doing their own dances nearby. We hope the judges will be impressed.'
Will blood prove thicker than water?
Or will Simon reject his own kind?
Tune in, same pig time, same pig channel.

The pig and the Simpsons reference thrust this to mind: Spider Pig, Spider Pig, does whatever a Spider Pig does.

Throwing yourself at the ground, and missing, you mean.

Must be easier to distract a pig.

I dunno, pigs are pretty focused. That's why there is no pig in Grifftopia. They are too damned friendly and smart to eat. I prefer an animal that doesn't fully comprehend the knife. Crap, I'll be a vegetarian before I know it.

Shame on them for adopting a Hungarian pig when there are breeds dying out in England.

The shockers.

Aren't the hairy pigs one of the breeds that have all but vanished over there?

Ahem.
I did not eat that delicious furry pig, and I am not currently chewing on delicious Hungarian ribs...

No idea to be fair.
But it's identified as Hungarian and is obviously not being bred commercially, so I just thought I'd try on a little Daily Mail style jingoism for fun.

ETA - nope, they are imports.
From here:
Quote:
Mangalitza Pigs were imported into the UK for the first time in 2006 by Tony York of Pig Paradise. A total of seventeen pigs were imported, three boars (one of each colour) and fourteen females.

We own two of the original imported females, one blonde and one red. We had our first litter of red piglets in November 2006. Our intentions are to try and keep the colours true, but this is proving difficult with only three original boars introduced to the UK, with one if Scotland, one in Wales and the other in Northern England. We are hoping in the future that more blood lines will be introduced to the UK.

Describing a pig as "blonde" seems ... unwholesome.
