June 26, 2013 - London Eye
I came across this image when I was looking at bridges and thought it was a lovely shot of the Eye. Can't remember where I saw it, though. My apologies to the photographer. |

So how was the London Eye constructed... ?
= built horizontally on the ground and then tilted upright = built horizontally on the ground and then flown in by helicopter = cables strung from the supports, one-at-a-time, and built vertically The answer is here |

That is a very usual lift for a crane. Not directly upward, but laterally.

It took 10 days to raise it.
But it's a big rip off, it only goes 0.033 rpm, that's no fun.
