Mar 16, 2010: Cargoshell

Ha ha, I fooled you all, I'm really a spammer for Cargoshell.

Quote:
Cargoshell provides, maintaining the successful qualities of the current container, a number of crucial innovations. Of higher interest is the substantial CO2-reduction that can be achieved by replacing the current containers by Cargoshell worldwide. Cargoshell is manufactured from composites (fibre reinforced plastics), therefore the container is much lighter than the current steel container. Another important innovation is the fact that Cargoshell has a folding mechanism. Steel containers obtain the same amount of space when they are fully loaded as when they are empty. The volume of a folded Cargoshell is ¼ of the original steel container.
Oh boy, more plastic in the Pacific Gyre... probably fireproof, but I wonder if they would melt? No matter, as long as walmart and China make more money.
I don't know where they hide the ends when it's folded up? Looks like there's a loop for an overhead door?

I suppose the ships are going back anyway, so the folding wouldn't matter too much, but you'd only need one truck, instead of four, to get the empties back to the dock. Looks like you need a crane to open them, I wonder if they could be folded without one?
I'm not a very good spammer, am I.

Ronco Popeil eat your heart out.

On a serious note, I think it would be much more efficient to smuggle in refugees if they were flattened in their cargo containers.

True.
All that they'd need is an air-pump, and they're good to go.

A nifty idea, but can you stack them 12 high on a container ship and round Cape Horn with it?

These are a nifty idea, and I can see them being useful in some situations, but they don't look that durable. Sure, they fold up all perfectly when they are new, but once they have been shipped around the world and unloaded from ships half a dozen times, they will be all beat up, and the folding mechanism will probably be mangled a little or encrusted with crud, and they won't fold properly.

Aw nuts! I hadn't thought of that. I guess my order for 50 blue ones will have to be postponed.

Mary Mary quite contrary
How does your garden grow?
With silver bells and cargoshells
And pretty maids all in a row.

My thoughts exactly. I don't wanna stack multiple tons of stuff in a container that can fold in the middle of the wall.

Yep. Overhead doors in the top section. There's a video. http://www.cargoshell.com/IMAGES/MED...APPEN_NEW-.wmv

Note: After unfolding, wait for the wobble to stop before closing the doors!

Thanks Tick, that wobble is a little disconcerting. Hard to believe the roll doors stiffen it enough.
