Those antenna farms are spooky-cool. The guys that change the lightbulbs get paid quite a bit, too. I've been partway up a cell tower before and I couldn't believe the wind just halfway up -- it felt like it was going to pull me right off the thing! I've been told that the extremely tall towers are traversed by a small elevator. Good thing, too -- can you imagine a storm rolling in real quick while you're at the top?

i hold a commercial rating, single instrument land. i'm getting ready to go to california for a couple of weeks to finish up my CFI so i can gain some hours to hopefully someday become a "glorified bus driver" as soon as my refinance of the house is done i'm going to get it. as of now i'm checked out in cessna 150, 152, 172, 182, piper tomahawk, warrior, archer and arrow, grummen cougar and finally the cheetah. the arrow is by far my favorite, here's a pic.......the plane in the back ground is an apachimo. an old apache transformed into a geronimo.....

so is it like an electric winch or something?

i couldn't imagine being caught in a storm on one of those things! the summer storms that brew out of nowhere here are spooky enough in an airplane let alone being caught on a tower somewhere when it happens........

Back in the poor student days a boyfriend and I were traveling in Florida. We stayed at someone he knew's house in Gainsville. Everytime the lights went out in the bedroom, we heard a scittering scurrying sound. It must have been a bijillion vampire cockroaches. I slept (sorta) up on a chair with my feet up for the night. Ick.

OMG, similar story. Years ago, stayed at a friend of a friend's home in VA. Forget about turning out the lights...you saw these fuckers in broad daylight and they.were.HUGE!!!! They scurried all around the front yard and porch...ugh they were just every damned where!

And when night came...lights ON...ALL NIGHT!

I've lived in three places that had cockroaches when I moved in. I never had any trouble getting rid of them using sugar and powdered boric acid. Works pretty well with ants too. The great thing is that they live long enough to tell all their friends where the stuff is - kills off the whole gang.

Baking soda and sugar is what I used when I lived in Fla...worked well for me too. And pet-safe to boot! Just gave the dog gas for a little while. HEHE

The proportion is three parts baking soda to one part sugar. Mix well and spread in lumps or make a wall around an ant entrance or colony. They can't climb through loose powder either. Or so I'm told.
