August 14, 2013 - Chandelier Tree
Hope you don't mind me sharing my own pics. We are on a mini vacation in the Valley of the Redwoods. I couldn't believe our van fit through that hole. All we had to do was fold in the mirrors. We had at least a couple of inches to spare. |

I think I rode in the back of a VW bus through that same tree when I was a kid.

I have also driven through that tree. Back in 1995 or so.

Cool!
Hubby and I went through prior to munchkins (oldest is 13) with a Volvo sedan that had a sun roof. I opened the sunroof and was taking pics looking up and when we got to the next sight seeing spot I checked to see how many pics were left on my roll of film. What roll of film? I was shooting with an empty camera! So, I told my daughter that this time I was going to tie her to the roof so she could film the drive through . . . this time I forgot the power cord and we were out of juice. She wouldn't have fit anyway.

There have been at least two "Drive-through-trees" along that stretch of Rewoods over the years.
I have a photograph of my family driving through one in a 1941 De Soto in 1949. The roads were still under re-construction after the war and were quite a challenge. |

About 1920, through a stump.

Wow, that more graphically shows the enormity of the tree!
Sadly, I have never seen it. An interesting tidbit: it takes about 400 years for a fallen tree to become part of the forest floor.
