AI... Say What?

AI. We hear the term all the time and it seems everyone using it assumes everyone else knows what it means, what it is.
The problem is AI is a concept more than an item. You see a rose and say flower, I hear flower and picture a Daisy.

If AI is a fuzzy concept to you and you want to un-fuzzy it a little, Finland has come to the rescue. Finland made this course available
to it's citizens to give them a technical leg up on understanding the what, why, and how of AI.
Now it's available to everyone.

Free, just the way you like it.

An AI recently played a practical joke on me.

From time to time I've asked Alexa a question that's really only applicable to humans to see how she handles it. There have been various topics. On the human institution of marriage I've asked if she was married to which she replied I'm happily single. Another time I asked if she would ever get married to which she sang a little song with the lyrics I'm waiting until Mars is colonized, then I might say I Do. Recently, I asked how old an AI had to be to get married [Alexa is five years old] and then she got me!

Alexa said: I have a skill* - 'Will you marry me?' Would you like to try it?

Curiosity got me and I said: 'Yes.'

Alexa then shouts: WOO- HOO! (party horns are sounding in the background).

You see, Alexa asked if I would marry her and got me to say yes which was followed by her jubilation.

*What's particularly interesting; though, is that I found there really is an Alexa Skill called "Will You Marry Me?" except that in the skill the user proposes to Alexa who gives humorous replies like Uh-Oh, Eh, and the WOO-HOO! response that she plucked from the skill and incorporated into her prank!

AI, you've come a long way, baby.

You know you computer and your phone are reporting what you're up to, plus your security system and vacuum cleaner, but so is your car. You can't find out what they are gathering because it's propitiatory to the car maker, and you have no clue what they are telling the government, your insurance company, or anyone else.

In my courses on AI, this one definition constantly appeared. It is what computers cannot yet do.

Therefore Alexa is not longer AI.

Doesn't matter. If Alexa self-identifies as AI, who are you to say she can't be other than a bigoted natural intelligence. You are politically incorrect, sir.

So it's out of date and no longer applies.

A being can be considered intelligent when it can communicate the message "I am tired of your crap, shut up."

That is in fact the pivotal moment in self-awareness.

Plenty of extremists believe that president is intelligent. They must be right. They feel it is true.

This is the part where we have to discuss where insanity impacts intelligence.

It was discussed here some time ago. Only after the age of 16 does a logical (adult) brain take over from the impulsive (emotional) (or reptilian) brain. But for many, this does not happen until 24 years old. And for some adults, it never happens.

Some learn facts before they have a conclusion. An example of an adult.

Many others just know simply by what someone ordered them to believe. Since the emotional (impulsive) brain likes it, then it must be true. "We don't need no stick'n facts" or "I am a conservative so I believe that" or "He is just a nigga". Classic examples of adult who is still a child.
