Dragon Eye Pond is a lake in Japan at the foot of Mount Hachimantai where the winter covering of snow and ice starts to melt in Late May/Early June, and as it does, this beauty is revealed. This photo was taken on June 8th this year.

I originally saw this story on the BBC earlier this summer, but didn't get around to sharing until now... Of course now I can't find that story, but I prefer this image from ECNS (the English Language stream from the China News Service) anyway.

Was this what you originally saw?

Japan's mysterious 'Dragon Eye' lake.

So beautiful. Thank you for sharing! As is my usual M.O. when I come across a story like this, I will now jump onto the Google Map and search the globe until I find it for myself.

I imagine a dunk in that pond would be brisk.
