The wonderful world of staphylococcus aureus (NSFW?)

This has been a really fun two week walk in the park. I'm on keflex and doxycycline and I'll probably get on bactroban tomorrow.

That looks really messed up. When I think about that image, I find myself choking down the idea of amputation and cauterization.

About two weeks before that I had spent the day repairing a ruptured sewer line but I don't believe the two are linked. One of the hazards of being hirsute is that I have a higher incidence of irritated hair follicles so I'm guessing it was just my lucky day or something.

And if you think the hole was nasty you should see what has come out of it over the last week.

Interestingly, I fear MRSA, but I don't know what an active infection looks like.

If it is in fact a boil, have you ever tried the black drawing salve? Last I found was named Ichthammol 20% ointment. Works for me. Just don't get it on sheets, what ever will stain.

Staff is a bacteria which lives on everyone's skin. It's amazing what disgusting little creatures we have living off us.

I had a staff infection in my foot last year. I thought it was just a normal cut which became slightly infected, but over the course of about six hours, my whole foot swelled so that I couldn't bend my ankle or any of my toes. I went to the local doc who jabbed me with penicillin and also something else (the name eludes me at the present moment). I had to go back for a jab every day for the next 4 days and take some nasty pills for a while too.

My sympthies are with you TS.
