Jan 2, 2009: Happy New Trash

To many people, when you say New Years Eve, Times Square comes to mind.
Bazillions of people have seen the Times Square celebration, the ball and for a while the Big Apple, dropping at midnight.

A lot less people have actually made their way to New York City to participate in the party, but this year (or would that be last year now?) they claim about a million people showed up. I've been to Times Square (not on NYE) and believe me, it ain't that big. They must have been huddled for warmth.

They say a 25mph wind was blowing around anything that wasn't tied down, but even with the wind's help there was over 40 tons of trash left behind... over a ton of just confetti.

I wonder if someone will do an article on some of the more interesting things the sanitation crews find?

I really want to know if the crew gets paid extra to work NYE-NYDay or if it's just a mandatory shift with no additional perks (besides the perk being you get to keep your job for showing up). Just a thought while I was watching clean-up crews shuffling around.

Cleaning crew is probably union, and probably getting double time, at least.

And don't forget, they get to keep what they find.

It might be kind of fun, looking for lost treasures.

Like when they tore down that rollercoaster, and found a prosthetic leg, along with lots of cell phones and pairs of underwearz.
