It's not every day you get a letter from the Queen!

I found this in a small book of photographs my dad had. Funny thing is, although he told me much about his life he never mentioned this letter. He would have been 6 at the time it was received and my grandfather and the family were on home leave from China. Home leave was a big deal in the old days of the British Empire since travel from the other side of the world took so long, they were only allowed to go home every 6 years or so but they got a few months off from work.

Anyway, my grand mother must have sent something to the Queen and her secretary took the time to reply. I imagine this doesn't happen too often now a days. Wish I had a copy of what they sent. And I do love the beautiful handwriting on the envelope.

I Googled the address in London and I can see sort of what the place looked like from the street view images. It also comes up as the address for The British Animation Awards.

Those look sort of like lithographs, or very elaborate etchings. Or is that just the texture of the paper / age showing?

Wow - I love old stuff like that. I got some scattered pieces from my parents, but nothing of that magnitude.

What's the big deal? I can't even COUNT the number of Queens I've had.

I suspect Bruce was closer to the mark. It was, after all, the Royal Mail The Monarch didn't used to have to have licence plates or pay road tax either.
