Beijing Polishes Up On Olympic Etiquette
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/...n4310034.shtml
Campaigns involving nearly a million volunteers have been launched to give etiquette tips at schools, universities and government offices. In some districts university students have been encouraged to go to villages to educate rural people, she said. China is telling it's people not to wear no more than three colors, no pjs, no white socks,no spiting, no outward shows of affection and do not ask foriengers their age, marital status, income, past experience, address, personal life, religious beliefs or political beliefs. Not from this article but the hotels in China will put in monitoring systems. I wonder if that includes the Presidents suite? |

How long do you think it will take for the Chinese to realise that foreigners are just as rude as they are, but in different ways?
Seriously, imagine someone in Thailand thinking, "we mustn't be rude! Those are Australian/American/British tourists! They're so polite! They'll be offended!"

I doubt it's so much a case of not wanting to offend, as it is showing themselves to be the epitome of polite culture.
