Lots of bad weather. Lots of rain, floods downed trees this fall. A good reason to feel thankful this thanksgiving.

Tonight is foggy and dry. I am really feeling the spirit of the holidays already. There is another storm system comming through. It's good to hope everyone is keeping safe on the roads.

i only buy silver or white. living in the desert, you know. i didn't like the yellow at all, but the blue is sweet. but i drive my vehicles into the ground and i figured the eyepopping blue would get old pretty quick. a real bugger to keep clean.

Jinx,
for what it's worth, there is an astoundingly talented cook in these parts who told me a story about his "walkabout" when he was younger he left his dad's restaurant and travelled around the country picking up cooking knowledge from chefs across the US. At one place the chef was interviewing himand asked him if he had ever burnt a sheet pan of bacon. (In some restaurants they put all the bacon on a sheetpan and cook it in the oven-- several pounds at a time) he admitted he had. The chef hired him on the spot figuring anyone who hadn't (eventually) burnt a whole sheet pan of bacon had been cooking long enough.

Your safe and sound, this is your sheet pan of bacon.

And as my teacher used to tell me:
You don't know how fast you can corner till you wipe out.

AS I'm sure you've heard, it's just a car.
A really expensive car, but just a car.

oh, and can you spare some puff?

(what is puff?)

Great.

If that's the way you like to express your status in society then there's probably nothing anyone can say to change your mind. Personally I drive a car that takes up a little less room on the roads, doesn't pollute so much and is statistically less likely to be involve in a fatal road accident.

I suppose in the States, you have the room, disposable income and attitude to run a car like that. But when I see pictures of freeways nose-to-tail with these things it just looks ridiculous.

My father recently bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee, the reasoning behind it was to pull his large caravan on holiday. Fair point, but he can hardly drive the damned thing because it's so bloody big and his neighbours get pissed off when he parks it outside his house and blocks access. I of course started giving him a bit of grief over his poor taste in vehicles, citing the environmental impact involved in shipping 2 1/2 tons of pig iron across the Atlantic and the 8 mpg fuel economy, his scathing retort was 'well at least it isn't French'.

Horses for courses innit. Urban 4x4 (SUV's) are the becoming the bane of UK city life, I'm with Ken Livingstone (mayor of London) who recently went public by decrying them as a public nuisance and finding it hard to justify why anyone should own one in London. Fair enough if you're a Tibetan Yak herder, but I don't know of many primary schools halfway up a mountain in the UK.

Oh yeah? Well here's my democratic opinion:

My democratic opinion tells me that you are a self-righteous, opinionated, Eurotrash asshole who thinks buying a car that costs the equivalent of three loaves of bread and a pint of Boddington's because that's all your sorry ass can afford gives you the right to bust ass on everyone who's lot in life is better than yours.

You might think you are better than everyone who has a nicer car, better looking wife and a better looking life than you but what you really are is a stupid, jealous, insecure nancy boy who has carefully crafted a self-reinforcing delusion to cushion yourself against the reality that you drive a crumpled-up wad of French tin foil not because you have a duty to the planet but because you are a sorry-ass loser in every sense of the word and you simply cannot come to grips with it.

Oh, yeah, good luck in the election. Nice car. Dude. -ette.

How much I earn is irrelevent, but for the record (and seeing as this is the benchmark by which most Americans seem to judge people) I have a very well paid job, have no debts (apart froma small mortgage) and I am quite financially secure.

Using terms like 'nicer car' is totally subjective and I can see debating the subject with close-minded bigots is pointless and will just degrade into a slanging match.

I'll leave you all to pat yourselves on your respective backs.

Enjoy your SUVs while you can :-)
