Feeding The Monster

Hastert said he was confident the party's conservative base would come around to support Republican candidates on Election Day. "I think the base has to realize after awhile, who knew about it? Who knew what, when? When the base finds out who's feeding this monster, they're not going to be happy. The people who want to see this thing blow up are ABC News and a lot of Democratic operatives, people funded by George Soros," Hastert said.

Yeah, I hate it when the damn liberal elite starts diggin into predatory behavior of our Politicians. I mean, what right do they have to do that?

It's funny, because the Republican base voters are the only ones who would care about someone being gay. Moderate swing voters don't really care, and neither do liberals. So the only ones who would care are the base, and they will always stand by their party. After all, they are the base.

I doubt this whole thing will have much impact on the election other than to keep momentum away from the Republicans. That may be enough to change things. When you are playing defense, you have a hard time to focus on the issues you want.

I concur. They want to keep their money and keep their values, even if one of the latter is overt hypocrisy.

I know it's old, but it's a classic:

What does gay have to do with it? The scandal is about "underage", not "gay".

Rush and Drudge are blaming the kids and families. First the claim that they are not kids (!) Teenagers today are perverted, not innocent (!) They lured poor Foley, US Congressman, entrapped him with their compliance, and by extension (!) the leaders of the House.

the scandal is the party coverup.

I get the impression that to the Republican base it's all about "gay."

I would seriously hope that even to the Republican base, the underage issue and the congressman/page relationship are at least as important as the gay issue. But maybe I hope too much.

CNN has a history of broadcasting wishes as news.

I wonder how long the Democrats knew? It was a great stroke of luck for them that the GOP leadership covered it up long enough for it to make the election cycle.

Underage...gay...as long as they can somehow blame the liberals or the victim, who cares? Besides, the kid was asking for it. They're all asking for it.
